Flooding still covers parts of The Acreage as crews pump ahead of more rain

CBS12 reports standing water still around homes and driveways in western Palm Beach County’s Acreage on Tuesday, with Indian Trail crews handling hundreds of work orders and more than 100 road washouts while more rain is expected this week. Tropical Depression Fay remains far from Florida with no land hazards.

Standing floodwater was still covering yards, driveways, and outbuildings in parts of The Acreage on Tuesday, Sept. 22, days after repeated heavy rain soaked western Palm Beach County. CBS12 News reported that Indian Trail Improvement District Board President Elizabeth Accomando said the district has received hundreds of work orders as crews pump water, clear clogged culverts, and repair road washouts. Accomando said crews have dealt with more than 100 road washouts and that the worst flooding has shifted north and northwest, including the “Top Hat” section and areas around Hamlin Boulevard, after earlier impacts concentrated in the southeast.

WPBF reported Monday that the district’s upper basin remained about 2 feet above its preferred level and the lower basin nearly 1 foot above, with crews working early and late to make room for additional rainfall expected this week. Accomando told WPBF that more rain fell than the drainage system could remove at once and that residents should expect water to linger days after storms end. The South Florida Water Management District told CBS12 its regional system is operating normally, the C-51 Canal has capacity, and no problems have been reported with regional flood-control infrastructure — while noting some local complaints involve canals the agency does not maintain.

Tropical Depression Fay is not a Florida threat. NHC Advisory 13 at 3:00 p.m. GMT Tuesday placed the center near 31.1°N, 34.6°W — about 645 miles southwest of the Azores — with maximum sustained winds near 35 mph. Fay is forecast to become a post-tropical remnant low later today. There are no coastal watches or warnings, and NHC lists no land hazards. The 2:00 p.m. EDT Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook notes only a far-eastern tropical wave expected to leave western Africa tomorrow, with low formation chances (near 0 percent through 48 hours, 30 percent through seven days).

If floodwater has entered a home or business, prompt extraction and drying limit secondary damage in Florida humidity. Florida Restoration Specialists serves Central Florida water damage calls — water damage restoration and water extraction — or call (863) 588-6617.
