Coastal Flood Warnings Extended Through Midweek as King Tides and Gusty Winds Batter Florida's East Coast
Coastal Flood Warnings now cover Florida's entire Atlantic coast, and the National Weather Service has extended them through midweek.
Coastal Flood Warnings now cover Florida's entire Atlantic coast, and the National Weather Service has extended them through midweek. In Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade, the NWS expects significant coastal flooding, and the warning lasts until 8 PM ET Wednesday. From Nassau through Martin County and along the St. Johns River basin, warnings run until 2 AM ET Thursday. For the Northeast Florida beaches, forecasters call for moderate to possibly major flooding around high tide.
Strong onshore winds are adding to the problem. A Wind Advisory covers metro and coastal Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach until 8 PM ET Tuesday, with northeast winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. The NWS says tree limbs could come down and a few power outages are possible. Breaking waves of 8 to 13 feet are forecast in Palm Beach County. The Upper Keys remain under a warning for major saltwater flooding until 5 AM ET Tuesday.
The St. Johns River near Astor has kept rising and reached 3.69 ft Monday afternoon. That's moderate flood stage, and major flooding begins at 4 ft. The National Hurricane Center expects no tropical development over the next 7 days.
If saltwater gets into your home or business, call Florida Restoration Specialists at (863) 588-6617. Saltwater speeds up corrosion and mold growth, so quick extraction and drying make a difference.
