Isaias Weakens Over Alabama; Warnings End but Flooding Risk Continues Across the Panhandle and Southeast

NHC issued its last advisory on Post-Tropical Cyclone Isaias Saturday morning as it moved toward the Tennessee Valley. Flash, urban, and river flooding remains possible this weekend.

Isaias weakened to a post-tropical cyclone over Alabama early Saturday, October 10. In its 4 AM CDT advisory, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) placed the center about 25 miles south-southwest of Montgomery with maximum sustained winds near 35 mph, moving north at 14 mph. NHC discontinued all storm surge and tropical storm warnings and said no watches or warnings remain in effect. Isaias is forecast to move into the Tennessee Valley and dissipate Sunday.

The rain is not over. NHC still expects 4 to 8 inches through the weekend across southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend, and southwest Georgia, with local totals up to 15 inches. It expects 2 to 5 inches across much of the rest of the Southeast. Flash, urban, and river flooding is possible, with considerable impacts likely from southern Alabama and the Florida Panhandle into southwestern Georgia. NHC also flagged a tornado risk through Saturday afternoon for parts of the eastern Panhandle, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

This was NHC's final advisory. Updates now come from the Weather Prediction Center. For Lakeland and Polk County, follow NWS Tampa Bay.

After a storm, check ceilings, baseboards, and floors near windows and doors for water that came in during heavy rain. If water got into your home or business, getting it out and drying started quickly limits the damage. Florida Restoration Specialists does water extraction and drying in Lakeland and across Polk County. Call (863) 588-6617.
