NE Winds Push St. Johns River Toward Moderate Flooding as 8–12 Ft Surf Hits Florida's Atlantic Coast

Northeast winds behind the cold front are pushing the St. Johns River near Astor toward moderate flood stage and building 8 to 12 foot surf along Florida's Atlantic coast through early Tuesday.

The northeast winds behind this week's cold front are causing trouble along Florida's east coast. NWS Melbourne says the St. Johns River near Astor (Lake and Volusia counties) is in minor flood now. The winds are slowing the river's flow and are expected to cause a quick rise to moderate flood stage late Sunday into early Monday, with a steady rise through moderate flood next week.

High Surf Advisories run from 11 PM Saturday through early Tuesday. NWS Jacksonville expects breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet on Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia beaches. NWS Melbourne expects 7 to 12 feet from Volusia to Martin counties and warns of localized beach erosion. Rip current risk is high.

The National Hurricane Center expects no tropical development in the Atlantic over the next seven days.

If rising water or wind-driven rain gets into your home or business, Florida Restoration Specialists does water extraction and drying across Lakeland and Polk County. Call (863) 588-6617.
