Why extraction comes before structural drying
Pulling standing water is not the same as drying the building. Both steps matter after a leak in Central Florida.
Water extraction pulls standing water off floors, pad, and slab. Structural drying is the next step — air movers and dehumidifiers working on wood, drywall, and concrete that are still wet after the puddle is gone.
Skipping extraction and only running box fans leaves a reservoir in the pad or against the slab. In Polk County humidity, that leftover moisture is what keeps a smell in the room and a soft spot in the baseboard.
A simple sequence
- Extract first so you are not drying a pond.
- Dry the structure so hidden moisture does not stall the job.
- Restore only what the building can keep.
